It was recently published an article concerning the persistence of Coronavirus on inanimate surfaces and the specific biocides able to inactivate it. This article has been followed by the indications contained in a recommandation of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
The article concludes that, despite the persistence of Coronavirus in the environmente up to 9 days, it can be efficiently inactivated through surface disinfection procedures with more than 70% ethanol, 0,5% hydrogen peroxide, 0,1% sodium hypochlorite within a minute. Other biocidal agents like 0,05-0,2% benzalkonium chloride or 0,02% chlorhexydine digluconate are still useful but less effective. The ECDC recommandations reach similar conclusions in relation to the effectiveness and concentration of the products.
